1972/73 Peter Revson Replica McLaren F1 / Can-Am Helmet
An original vintage Bell Star helmet with a 1970 snell has been painted just like the one he used in 1972 -1973 while driving with McLaren in both F1 and the Can-Am Series. This stunning replica is exact down to the finest details including the re-elect Nixon, compass sticker and his medical details.
Revson, the heir to the Revlon Cosmetics empire, choose a career in racing against his family’s wishes despite no financial support from them. He used his remaining education fund savings and went racing in 1960. A mere 4 years later he raced his first F1 races after proving his mettle in IndyCar and Can-Am series.
Despite never driving a full season in F1, he did have 30 starts, driving for the likes of Lotus, Tyrrell, McLaren and Shadow. He went on to win 1 pole and winning two races, both in 1973. While racing in IndyCar he finished 5th in his first Indy 500, later going on to qualify on pole for the 1971 Indy 500 and finished the race in second. Notably his biggest racing success came in the Can-Am series where he was champion in 1971, winning 5 of the 11 races and a total of 8 podiums. His great driving and the dominant McLaren M8F resulted in him handily winning the championship with teammate Denny Hulme coming in second both nearly double the points of the 3rd place finisher Jackie Stewart.
