1998 Michael Andretti Race Used Newman Haas Swift 009c-01 IndyCar
Original Swift IndyCar raced by IndyCar Champion Michael Andertti in the 1998 CART Series for Newman Haas Racing.
Andretti debuted this Swift chassis 009c-01 at the 1998 Long Beach Grand Prix. This actual car would also be driven many times in testing, all the way into early 1999 with various drivers at the wheel including Andretti, Christian Fittipaldi, Roberto Moreno and the late Gonzalo Rodriquez. This would be the first IndyCar the young Uruguayan driver would test at Sebring before being picked up by Team Penske for the Detroit Grand Prix in 1999 where he scored points on his debut. Sadly he would lose his life later that season in an accident at Laguna Seca in just his second start.
During the 1998 IndyCar season Andretti won at the Marlboro GP of Miami and scored 2nd places at Gateway, Cleveland, the Toronto Molson Indy and the Molson Indy of Vancouver.
Michael Andretti is considered one of the greats of IndyCar racing and is currently 4th on the all-time wins list with 42 wins and was also the 1991 IndyCar Series Champion. He has since won multiple Championships and Indy 500’s as a team owner.
Newman Haas Racing was co-owned by Carl Haas and Hollywood superstar Paul Newman. The team won multiple championships and scored race wins right up until their final season in 2011.
This IndyCar is in great show condition and looks like it did when it was last used on track. The car was recently acquired directly from Newman Haas, as it sold its assets and closed down operations. Note this car is near complete minus the engine and a steering wheel so will make for a great display piece.
The car is located in our Indianapolis location. Contact us for more info and pricing at [email protected]
Full history of the car can be seen in attached photos.
